JAMESBURG: Leo Club receives award

The Cranbury Lions Club is pleased to announce that its Jamesburg Leo Club won the honor of being the only Leo Club in New Jersey District 16-D to receive the Leo Club Excellence Award for 2012-2013.

The Cranbury Lions Club is pleased to announce that its Jamesburg Leo Club won the honor of being the only Leo Club in New Jersey District 16-D to receive the Leo Club Excellence Award for 2012-2013.
The Jamesburg Leo Club was presented their Leo Club Excellence Award in a dinner meeting ceremony at the New Jersey Training School on Oct. 9.
The Jamesburg Leo officers conducted the meeting, which was attended by 13 members of the Cranbury Lions club in addition to Lion dignitaries, District 16-D District Governor Bob Brandt, District 16-D First Vice District Governor Mahesh Chitnis and NJTS Committee Chair Past District Governor, James Heisler.
Leo Nestor P. preformed a special RAP as entertainment.
District Governor Bob Brandt presented the award and First Vice District Governor Mahesh Chitnis inducted new Leo members.
To achieve this award the Jamesburg Leo club had to demonstrate superior performance in serving others by completing community service projects, in developing and executing creative fundraisers, in exercising effective leadership skills, in enhancing the public image of Leo Clubs and in completing administrative operations.
The Jamesburg Leo Club made, sold and distributed rescue bracelets raising about $350 for donation to the Breast Cancer Research Fund of New Jersey.
The Leos conducted a school wide sale to staff and engaged the Cranbury Lions to assist with their sales.
In another project the Leos designed, made and sold t-shirts, “Disable the Label” to raise awareness about disability awareness and donated the proceeds to The ACR of Middlesex County, the primer organization in Middlesex County serving people with disabilities. For this service project the Leo officers made two presentations about disability awareness.
To assist with Sandy Relief the Jamesburg Leo Club designed, made and sold Holiday Cards to raise money that was donated to the American Red Cross. To assist with homeless youth, the Leos designed, made, and sold Mother’s Day and Father’s Day cards and donated the money to the Covenant House for Homeless Youth.
The Jamesburg Leos began a campus-wide recycling program for printer ink cartridges, which is an ongoing project.
Twice during the year 2012-2013 in October 2012 and in May 2013 the Jamesburg Leos hosted joint meetings with the Cranbury Lions Club.
At each meeting the then District Governor John Kobland inducted new Leos into the club. During the May meeting they had a guest speaker, Bob Cenker, a RCA scientist who spoke about his experience working on the Space Shuttle mission.
Leo clubs give youth in the area the opportunity to learn the rewards of service to others, learn to obtain leadership skills and provided the opportunity for social interaction and to make new friends.
The Cranbury Lions Club members are proud of the Jamesburg Leos and their accomplishments since their charter in May of 2011.
The Leo program is one ways the Cranbury Lions Club serves youth. Other programs of service to youth include sponsoring the Lions Club International Peace Poster Program for students ages 12-14 attending the Cranbury School each fall and their Scholarship and Community Service Awards each May.
The Cranbury School joins with the Cranbury PTO to provide the families the opportunity to participate in the annual Pumpkin Carving Contest offered each year the Friday before Halloween.
