A late first down rush by Dahrae Ford with time running out in the fourth quarter permitted the South Brunswick Vikings to score a 28-21 victory over the visiting Middletown North Lions in the Homecoming Game Friday evening.
”It took a great effort by Dahrae to come up with a very clutch rush to give us this victory,” said Head Coach Joe Goerge following the game. “We are really going to step up our efforts to make the playoffs this year. We will need a big game at Sayreville next week to give us a shot.”
The Vikings went into the locker room at halftime with a 14-7 lead.
Things did not look good for the Vikings, however, as Dylan Olsson, star quarterback and kicker, was injured early in the contest.
Although it was feared that he had broken his ankle, x-rays performed after the game revealed a sprain.
His return this week, however, is questionable.
Olsson was already recovering from a hit during the team’s last home game two weeks ago while playing quarterback.
Dontae Strickland finished the game with 12 rushes for 96 yards, including a long run of 66 yards. He accounted for two touchdowns.
Quarterback Amir Johnson rushed for the other two touchdowns.
Three point-after scores by relief kicker Matt Golden, and one early kick aided the offense by Olsson.
The defense performed without standout ChrisJon Summers. Marcus Jackson and Zaire Gibson counted for seven tackles each.
All roads for a possible Vikings playoff bid lead to Sayreville High School at 7 p.m. tonight.
