Sat., Nov. 9
   School board: The Board of Education will meet in a closed-session “retreat” setting from noon to 3 p.m. in the ABIS media center to discuss its annual goals. No action is planned.
Mon., Nov. 11
   Casino trip: A trip to Atlantic City Resorts raises money to benefit the Manville VFW Post 2290 for its community service. The cost is $60, which includes $20 back, buffet, 3 p.m. musical show and driver tip. Call 908-722-0156.
Wed., Nov. 13
   Slavic dinner: St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $12 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and under). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes. A surprise entrée will be prepared by St. Mary’s chef John Pagano.
   Book signing: Manville author Kimberly Bias signs “The Thirteen Soldiers of Alastair in Bringing Down the Moon” at the Manville Public Library, 100 South 10th Ave. from 6:30-7:30 p.m. A limited number of books will be available for purchase.
Sat., Nov. 16
   Basket auction: Manville-Hillsborough Elks, 1500 Brooks Blvd. Doors open 5 p.m. Auction at 7:30 p.m. $10 advance tickets, $15 at door. 50/50, door prizes, food. Bring five non-perishable items for food bank and get one grand prize ticket. Tickets: 908-725-1717 or [email protected].

   Pie sale: Friends of Christ The King Church are selling pies for Thanksgiving. Apple, no-sugar apple, pumpkin, coconut, very berry. $10 each or 2 for $19.    Blood pressure checks: Second Thursday of the month, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., VFW.

   Hours at Borough Hall: Offices continue to be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.
   Recreation office hours: Monday, noon to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, noon to 5 p.m., and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Friday. The recreation information line is 908-725-9478, ext. 119.
