MANVILLE: Doo wop singers will perform for seniors

   At the Thursday, Nov. 14, meeting the Manville Senior Citizens will be entertained by Michael Kaye and his wife singing doo wop and country songs.
   Voting for the election of 2014 officers will be held in November.
   The senior citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the VFW on Washington Avenue.
   Residents of Manville age 50 and older are eligible for membership. Also, persons who do not remain residents of Manville are still eligible for membership. Dues for new members are $20, which includes 2014 dues and registration.
   Nick Trilone is accepting 2014 dues for members.
   Canned goods or nonperishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting. Remember to bring one item per member to stock the Food Bank.
   Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting for members, starting at 11:30 a.m.
   Tickets will be available for the Christmas party for Sunday, Dec. 8, at the VFW from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 members and $25 for guests. This year’s party will include a show by Elvis impersonator Richie Santi, as well as a DJ for your dancing pleasure. A chart will be set up for seating arrangements; make sure you sign up at the November meeting.
Recreation Events
   • Tuesday, Dec. 31 — New Year’s Eve Day celebration at the Royal Manor, Garfield. The trip includes family-style luncheon, show, one-hour open bar, dancing and comedian Marvin Bell.
   The cost is $90. Full payment is due. Contact Ms. Zangaro at 908-722-6708 to make a reservation. This trip is open to the public.
   This is a New Year’s Eve afternoon party and everyone who attended last year thoroughly enjoyed it.
   • Atlantic City — Normally run the second Wednesday of each month, the next trip to Showboat Casino is the third Wednesday, Nov. 20. The bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the VFW parking lot. The cost is $30, of which $30 will be returned on the November trip. This trip is open to the public. Call Josephine Pschar at 908-722-0156.
