MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Mansfield Police Department has announced it is a participating agency in the Project Medicine Drop Program.
In cooperation with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, this initiative is an important component in the collaborative effort to stop the abuse of prescription drugs.
The community can now conveniently dispose of unused and expired medications at any time by depositing them in the collection box located in the police station located at 190-A Atlantic Avenue in Columbus.
For safety reasons, according to the department’s website, the boxes can only accept solid medications such as pills, patches, inhalers and similar objects.
Liquids, medical waste or syringes cannot be deposited into the boxes. Consumers wishing to dispose of these objects should speak with their doctors or pharmacists to find the safest and best ways to dispose of them.
The site also notes that consumers may only dispose of legal prescription or over-the-counter medications and that anyone wishing to dispose of any illicit drug, should follow the normal procedure of reporting it to the police.
