On Nov. 3, the South Brunswick Public Library held a screening of the film, “The Test of Freedom,” which won a 2013 Filmmakers Choice Award in the San Diego Black Film Festival.
The film was about Muslim Americans and their struggles against discrimination and the environment of Islamophobia that exists.
After the film, Director Mr. Khaliff Watkins, took questions from the audience which included questions on Sharia Law and the differences and similarities among cultural and religious practices among faiths.
Attendees shared their experiences of prejudices such as being told, “go back to your country,” or “you are not American.”
Attendees encouraged holding more interfaith events and having more dialogue through coffee clubs to raise better understanding of Muslims to help dispel many misconceptions of the Islamic faith.
