BORDENTOWN: Drama students hold food drive

The effort was part of the International Thespian Society’s Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat program, according to a press release.

BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — The International Thespian Society, a division of the Educational Theatre Association, has announced the Bordentown Regional High School’s Thespian Troupe 6803’s collected 4,121 pounds of canned and dry goods for Burlington Community and Emergency Services.
The effort was part of the International Thespian Society’s Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat program, according to a press release.
Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat is a national community service program for ITS member schools to collect canned and dry goods for local charities and food banks.
Thespian troupes from across the country have participated in the program this year, and thousands of pounds of food were collected across the state, giving theatre students the ability to help their local communities.
In four years of participation in the program, Troupe 6803 has collected over 12,000 pounds of donations.
Thespian Troupe 6803 would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who donated to those in need.
The troupe’s goal for 2013 was to collect 3,500 pounds of food, and the generosity of their community has once again helped the students exceed their donation goal.
In 2010, the generous donations of the Bordentown community helped Troupe 6803 to surpass their original goal of 1,000 pounds and ultimately donate 2,002 pounds of food.
For this, Troupe 6803 was awarded the 2010 Harvest Excellence Award by the International Thespian Society.
The Educational Theatre Association, founded in 1929, is an international nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and strengthen theatre education as a means of lifelong learning.
The association’s major areas of effort – educational development, teacher development, and advocacy – serve to accomplish this mission by helping to improve the learning environment in the theatre arts.
A professional association for theatre educators, EdTA also operates the International Thespian Society, an honorary organization for high school theatre students.
The Bordentown Regional High School Theatre Club and Stage Crew are part of the International Thespian Society, an honor organization for students who excel in the theatrical arts.
Thespian Troupe 6803 has produced students who are not only performers, but directors, designers, technicians, leaders, and community activists. Their annual season of dramas, comedies, children’s theatre, musicals, festivals, and one act plays have garnered BRHS numerous awards and nominations from the New Jersey State Thespian Festival, the International Thespian Festival, the New Jersey Theatre Night Awards and the Greater Philadelphia Cappies Awards.
