HILLSBOROUGH: Dukes cheerleaders are state, conference champs

They go on in competition this weekend

On Sunday Nov. 3, the Hillsborough Dukes sent their two competition squads to Sun Bank Arena in Trenton to compete at the N.J. State Cheer Competition against 90 cheer squads.
The Hillsborough Dukes Jr. Pee Wee squad continued to perfect their routine and was rewarded with another first place, leaving the team undefeated and earning the title of state champions.
The Jr. Midget team had a last-minute injury, which left it performing a modified routine. Despite the challenge of late changes, the team was excited to get second place.
Both teams will compete at the Pop Warner Eastern Region finals on Saturday, Nov. 16, in Albany in a bid to go to the national competition in Walt Disney World.
At Sun Bank Arena in Trenton on Oct. 14, both the Jr. Pee Wee and Jr. Midget squads perform their routines almost flawlessly, and both were named Jersey Valley Conference champions.
On the same day, the Dukes Flag and Mitey Mite teams gave exhibition performances. The flag squad performed exceptionally well and impressed their fans.
The Mitey Mite squad performed at the newly allowed intermediate level, permitting them to perform multiple back handsprings and more advanced stunting. The Mitey Mites will exhibit at the Bash at the Beach in Wildwood.
