The CEA/Johanna Foods Turkey Trot 5K run and fitness walk in Flemington on Thanksgiving Day is teaming up with other holiday foot races across the country to unite runners and bring a world record back to the United States.
The Guinness World Record Gobbler Challenge on Nov. 28 aims to reclaim the record for “most participants in a multi-venue race” by linking more than 20 races across 15 states.
The combined number of participants will have to exceed 116,086 to break the record held by Malaysia.
The race also aims to get people off the couch and involved in running, spur race participation and drive funds for the races’ charities.
The CEA/Johanna Foods Turkey Trot has been held on Thanksgiving for 21 years.
Proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit CEA’s programs to educate, employ and empower individuals with special needs.
To register, visit raceforum.com/turkeytrot/ or www.ceaemployment.com.
The race coordination is the brainchild of Dustin Freckleton, co-founder and president of BSX Athletics, a sports technology company that has developed a wearable lactate threshold sensor, which looks inside the exercising muscle and tells athletes in mid-race when they need to speed up or slow down for optimal performance.
Partnering runs will take place in Louisiana, Kansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Colorado, California, South Carolina, Michigan, Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Saddle River, New Jersey.
