Luis Jose Estevez Herrera, 22, of the Bronx, was charged with robbery, theft by deception and fraudulent use of a credit card after he tried to buy an iPad mini at the P.C. Richard and Sons store on Brunswick Pike at 3:46 p.m. Nov. 6, according to police Lt. Mark Ubry.
Mr. Herrera used a credit card to purchase the item, which was valued at $498.96, but the store clerk became suspicious, Lt. Ubry said. He followed the man into the parking lot and asked him to return to the store.
Instead, Mr. Herrera swung at the clerk twice and missed, but connected with a punch a third time. The clerk grabbed him and that’s when he punched the clerk in the ribs, Lt. Ubry said. He was able to detain Mr. Herrera until police arrived.
Mr. Herrera was taken to the Mercer County Corrections Center on $75,000 bail.
