Councilwoman urges, ‘Adopt one of the 27 members of the squad’

”Adopt a Squad Member” has been launched to help the Manville First Aid and Rescue Squad get much-needed uniform dress shirts.
Councilwoman Susan Asher is the force behind the program.
”I am initiating an Adopt a Squad Member program to cover the cost of their shirts,” she said. “I thought it would be a great way to show our appreciation and support for the individuals that continue to provide service to Manville.”
Ms. Asher is asking groups, clubs, sports programs, school personnel and her fellow council members to consider adopting a squad member. A donation of $45 will fund a dress shirt for one squad member.
The Manville First Aid and Rescue Squad members volunteer their time to work 12-hour shifts proving service to the community. Members give many hours weekly and they also support Manville at sports games, community events and when needed. The squad is now expanded to 27 men and women and could always use more help.
The shirts will have the newly designed uniform patch on it. Members of the MFAS are responsible for purchasing their own uniforms so this program would help them out.
Sheila Lessing, president of the squad, is thrilled with the idea.
”With every donation, that is less money that we have to spend from the budget,” she said. “We think it is a wonderful idea. We hope a lot of people take advantage of it.” “My goal is to have 27 new dress shirts ordered by the squad’s reorganization meeting in January. Please consider adopting a squad member this holiday season,” said Ms. Asher.
