Library Happenings column
Manville Public Library is looking for community members who would like to join the Friends of the Manville Library Committee.
This committee will promote the library’s programs and collections, raise funds for special library projects and encouraging a lifelong love of reading and learning. Call Barbara Forbes at 908-722-9722.
Make truffles: Beautiful candies make great gifts (or snacks!) Teens can learn how to make these elegant and yummy candies as gifts or snacks at the Manville Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m.
We will demonstrate how to make vanilla and chocolate truffles with a variety of flavorful decorations. All materials and instruction will be provided for free, and you can take home everything you make.

Card making: Bring holiday cheer to patients in nursing homes in the area by creating handcrafted cards. Materials will be provided. Open to grade 3 and older, including adults. Monday, Nov. 18, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in the Community Room.
Pie basket raffle: Participate in a free raffle ticket for a Thanksgiving pie basket, simply by checking out any item until Nov. 26.
Books, music CDs, movies, magazines, or audiobooks are available to anyone with a library card. Also, books and music may be downloaded, free of charge, to an e-reader or computer. Museum passes, which provide free admission for two to six people at several area museums, may be borrowed as well.
Kids’ chess tournament: Manville Public Library will host a kids’ chess tournament from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Players of all skill levels are invited to an open chess tournament for kids and teens. Anyone age 7 and older can participate, and each participant will play at least two games. Pairings will be created in two categories; players under age 10 and players age 10 and older.
Prizes will be awarded to the best players, and refreshments will be served.

Game night: Students in grade 6 and older are invited on Friday, Nov. 22, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. No registration is required.

Graphic Novel Book Club: On Thursday, Nov. 14, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Community Room the group will discuss “Kingdom Come.” All adults are welcome. Sign up if you plan on attending.
Book club: The Hungry Readers Book Club normally meets from noon to 1 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. The next meeting will be Dec. 9. For information, call Beverly Ball at 908-722-3057.
Teen game night: The library will hold a free Friday game nights for kids in grades 6-12 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22.
Craft night: All ages are invited Thursday, Nov. 21, to attend from 5:45- 7:45 p.m. in the Community Room. Bring in a glue gun, if you have one. Please register online.
Lego Club: Use your imagination building with Legos on Friday, Nov. 15, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. All ages are welcome and the library provides the Legos. Register on line.
Storytime: Sessions will be held Nov. 19 and 26 from 11 a.m.-noon in the Community Room. Leaders will share a seasonal story and songs, followed by an age-appropriate craft. Children must be 3 ½ by Aug. 31, 2013. Registration is required online or at the library.
Chess classes: The library offers free classes for all ages. Call Henry at 908-458-5324 to schedule a class. All are welcome. Register on line or at the library.
Crochet Club: Join the club from 6-7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the Community Room. Experienced or not, you will be welcomed. Bring your own needles and yarn.
Regular hours: Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Book sale: The library’s book sale continues. Buy the donated and surplus books to help support the library. Hardcover books cost 50 cents, softcovers 25 cents or by the bag for $2.
Circulation policy: As of Oct. 1, any library items that used to circulate for 28 days will now circulate for 21 days.
Should there be more than four holds on the title/item, the system will automatically circulate it for 14 days instead.
At the same time, the number that any item can be renewed is increasing from twice to three times. If there are holds on the item, it won’t be able to be renewed. Call library for further information.
