ROBBINSVILLE — Ready for a Shakespearean comedy?
Robbinsville High School Ravens Players will present William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
The Fellowship of the Ravens, Inc. is a nonprofit theatre troupe of “extraordinarily talented” high school students from Robbinsville High School, who have taken their show on the road and across the sea to Edinburgh, Scotland, where they participated in the “most prestigious theatre festival,” according to Director Alison Sussman.
She noted how the show is “predominately student-produced.”
”Students do almost everything for the show,” she said, noting Ashley Petix, a freelance scenic painter and set designer and 2010 RHS graduate, also chipped in.
”She’s been working on scenic painting for the show and as a set design consultant, which was a terrific opportunity for students in the program to learn and be inspired by someone who graduated from the program,” she added.
Tickets will be on sale at the door at $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens.
The show features comedy, murder and a few weddings.
The main characters are Duke Senior, played by Alex Reitter; Duke Frederick played by Jeremy Wall; Orlando de Boys, played by Jimmy Kenna; Rosalind, played by Victoria Septien; Celia played by Caroline Maurer); Oliver (Jake McGlew); the shepherd Silvius, played by Taylor LaCaze; Touchstone played by Michael Kowalski; Phoebe played by Lexi Amato; goat-herder Audrey, played by Sydney Rubin.
It’s a Shakespearean comedy where a girl meets boy at a wrestling match. They fall in love. The boy runs away to the forest to hide from his murderous brother. The girl runs away from the forest and dresses as a boy to hide from her murderous uncle. A shepherdess falls in love with girl dressed as boy who runs into boy from wrestling match. A ridiculous comedy ensues and culminates with four weddings.
Under the direction of Ms. Sussman, the show features a cast and crew of about 46 students, who have been working since the start of school, learning lines, music and dances, building sets and setting lights and sound.
The doors will open early to browse Front of House for theatergoers to purchase Kisses for the Cast and Crew, photos, concessions prior to show time and at intermission.
