ROBBINSVILLE — For the second year in a row, a township youth invites the community to participate in a fun run to benefit Special Olympics of New Jersey.
Jared Miller, an eighth grader at Pond Road Middle School , is set to host the second annual Black Friday Fun Run on Nov. 29, according to the township website.
The event is a non-competitive 1.25-mile run with two laps around the Town Center Lake that begins at 10 a.m.
Registration is $15 per participant and checks can be made out to SONJ (Special Olympics of NJ) and will be held from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the gazebo.
The event will also feature door prizes and t-shirts will be available.
According to the township release, last year’s first-ever run was recognized as the township’s event of the year. It drew over 130 participants who raised a combined $3,000 for the Special Olympics.
”Last year, I was trying to think of a community service project for my bar mitzvah, and then I realized that I love running,” Jared said in the release. “I also think that everyone should get an equal shot at sports, even if they have disabilities. So, Special Olympics New Jersey and I were a perfect match.
”Then throughout the course of the event planning, it changed from a required community service project to something that I enjoyed and felt passionate about,” he added.
