HAMILTON The township’s senior center has been announced as being among 120 facilities nation-wide to meet the National Institute of Senior Centers’ standards for model senior centers.
Due to unanimous approval by the National Institute of Senior Centers’ Accreditation Board, the facility has earned accreditation by the National Council on Aging/National Institute of Senior Centers for a period of five years through September of 2018, according to a township release.
The National Council on Aging is a nonprofit service and advocacy organization that seeks to provide a national voice for older Americans and the community organizations that serve them, the release stated.
Mayor Kelly A. Yaede said the accreditation affirmed her long-standing belief that the township senior center is among the best in the nation.
”Our entire community can take great pride in this national accreditation; and as mayor, I look forward to building further upon all that our center currently offers so that Hamilton’s seniors can continue to enjoy a senior center that is second to none,” Mayor Yaede said in the release.
According to National Institute of Senior Centers Program Manager Maureen Arsenault O’Leary, the township senior center “demonstrates outstanding leadership and commitment to quality programs and services.”
Due to the national accreditation, the Hamilton Township Senior Center now ranks among some 120 senior centers across the nation to meet the standards developed by the NISC.
As Ms. Arsenault O’Leary notes, “These are centers that are held up as models for others to follow.”
The NISC’s review of Hamilton’s Senior Center noted many strengths of the facility, which included its:
* Purpose and planning, which were described as “an excellent example of how to plan and carry out the work of a senior center”
* Community connections
* Administration of the center
* Program development implementation and use of volunteers to lead programs
* The facility’s preventive maintenance plan
”This recognition is certainly a testament to the work of our outstanding Senior Center employees and the commitment of Mayor Yaede and her administration in maintaining an outstanding facility,” said Marty Flynn, Hamilton’s director of Health, Recreation, Seniors and Veterans Services. “It is a proud moment for our Senior Center, our Department and our community.”
