NORTH HANOVER The Township of North Hanover has inked a new contract for snow removal, but the cost is relatively the same as its last one.
The committee passed the resolution unanimously at its meeting Nov. 7, awarding the bid to Cut Above the Rest, of Upper Freehold.
The rates will be $200 per hour for the use of tractors, $200 per hour for use of a dump truck and plow and $75 per hour for loading salt.
The previous contractor, Herman Liedtka Inc., of Crosswicks, also charged $200 per hour for equipment, Mayor Jim Durr said.
The contract dates back to Nov. 15, the beginning of the snow season, so it made the most sense to pass the resolution at the Nov. 7 meeting since there won’t be another meeting before the contract is set to begin, Committeeman Mike Moscatiello added.
”It’s very close to what we had before,” he added.
A few signatures on the contract were left unfilled by the bidder, but the committee and township officials said the items were of a minor nature. Thus, the resolution was passed on a contingency basis that all information will be filled out.
In other news, the committee agreed to enter into a shared service agreement with New Hanover for the use of the North Hanover municipal court’s video equipment.
The committee entered the agreement at the request of North Hanover Judge Lois Downey.
”Anytime we can get a shared service is a good thing,” Committeeman Mike Moscatiello said.
The committee agreed to try out the deal for a year to see how it works out, unanimously passing the resolution. The township will share the equipment with New Hanover at a cost not to exceed $600 per year, according to the contract.
North Hanover also shares its municipal court services with Wrightstown and Chesterfield.
