The South Brunswick Food Pantry is still low on many items for the coming holidays.
As of last week, 125 families with children and 92 single adults without children, have sought assistance from the pantry this month, according to Director LouAnne Wolf.
”We have packed 130 double boxes for ‘families’ to date, as we anticipate more families to sign up,” she said. “We have not yet started packing for our singles yet. We are missing a lot of items in each box.”
She said the pantry needs the following food, but at this point, it is most important to receive turkeys and/or gift cards so families/individuals can purchase turkeys.
Also needed are the following foods: coffee, jelly, peanut butter, stuffing, canned pumpkin or other pie fillings and pie crusts, turkey gravy, canned sweet potatoes/yams, boxed milk such as Parmalot or Borden’s, Chef Boyardee canned ravioli’s, spaghettios, canned corn, dried soups, boxed mashed potatoes, boxed cakes/icing/brownie mixes and chicken broth.
”We expect our numbers to grow before Thanksgiving, and then continue through the Christmas holidays,” Ms. wolf said. “We will begin preparing and packing for the holidays again Dec. 9.”
For the Christmas holiday, the pantry still needs gift cards that can these families, such as; gas gift cards, grocery store gift cards, local restaurant gift cards, Regal Cinema gift cards, Target or Walmart gift cards, Dunkin Donuts gift cards, Steinmart or Kohl’s gift cards and Visa or American Express gift cards.
Ms. Wolf said the staff is in the office Monday through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with some extended hours now on the two Friday’s before Thanksgiving and before Christmas.
Residents should feel free to drop donations off at the Municipal Building downstairs, or call the pantry at 732 329-4000 extension 7672 or 7674.
”We want to thank the community for their continued support for those less fortunate in our community,” Ms. Wolf said.
