HILSBOROUGH: Bicyclist hit by SUV airlifted to hospital

Accident occurred near shopping plaza entrance

   A 64-year-old bicyclist was evacuated by helicopter to the hospital after he and a SUV collided on Amwell Road near Pineywoods Road at 1:51 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20.
   Township police said a 2004 Toyota Highlander, driven by Leon Morrison, 75, of Hillsborough was making left turn into the parking lot of the Amwell Commons center at 390 Amwell Road when it collided with a mountain bicycle ridden by William Smolder of Hillsborough.
    Mr. Smolder was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by the State Police medevac.
   Police are investigating the accident. If anyone has information, they are asked to call 908-369-4323.
   Also responding were the township rescue squad, the Hillsborough Co. 2 fire department and the Somerset Medical Center paramedic unit.
