ALLENTOWN: Seminary president to speak

The Reverend Dr. Frank M. Yamada, President and Cyrus McCormick Professor of Bible and Culture at McCormick Theological Seminary, will be preaching at Allentown Presbyterian Church on Dec. 8.

ALLENTOWN — The Reverend Dr. Frank M. Yamada, President and Cyrus McCormick Professor of Bible and Culture at McCormick Theological Seminary, will be preaching at Allentown Presbyterian Church on Dec. 8.
   He will be preaching at both morning services at 8 and 11 a.m. He will also be teaching during the education hour at 9:45 a.m., according to a press release.
   In addition, there will be a reception following the 11 a.m. service.
   The Rev. Yamada is the first Asian American to serve as president of a Presbyterian Church U.S.A. seminary. Prior to becoming president, Dr. Yamada was the director of the Center for Asian American Ministries and associate professor of Hebrew Bible at McCormick.
   He also taught Hebrew Bible/Old Testament for nine years at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. He has numerous published essays and is the author of “Configurations of Rape in the Hebrew Bible: A Literary Analysis of Three Rape Narratives” and an editor for and contributor to “The Peoples’ Companion to the Bible” and “The Peoples’ Bible”, a cross-cultural study bible.
   Dr. Yamada is a leading voice and sought-after speaker on the future of the church and theological education. He is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.
