I n an interview on NBC’s “Today” show, tea party fanatic and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin lambasted President Obama, for his “socialism,” Obamacare and his disregard for the U.S. Constitution.
Apparently, Mrs. Palin does not understand that America is a democratic republic and that its strengths are its people — rich, middle class and poor.
She apparently does not understand that most decisions are based, in part, on U.S. Census data.
As an engineer and planner, I can attest to the fact that Census data are used for providing transportation, housing, banking, food production, hospitals, schools, clothing, technology, Facebook, communications, media, safety, law enforcement and all aspects of life — hence, these consider the rich, middle class and poor.
All Americans benefit from these Census data and these services. So why is it that Mrs. Palin does not understand that, because of this, all Americans should share in a reasonable standard of living?
I do not call President Obama’s efforts socialism — I call them democracy. Avery W. Grant Long Branch
