Mr. Arfken, 66, of Monroe, died Nov. 13, 2013, in Saint Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 2008, he was a project manager for Verizon, Freehold, where he worked for 35 years. He also worked for Lowe’s, Old Bridge. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert Alan and Rhoda Campbell Arfken. Surviving are his wife, Susan J. Weeks Arfken; a daughter, Katherine Beatty, and her husband, Drew, of Edison; three sons, Edward A. Arfken, and his wife, Darlene, of Freeland, Pa., Erik S. Arfken, and his wife, Tammy, of Newton and James Hart, and his wife, Amy, of Bronxville, N.Y.; a brother, Alan Arfken of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren. A service was held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, East Brunswick. Arrangements were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, also East Brunswick.
