A group of young girls wanted to make a difference and decided to help out a charity last week by making and selling handmade crafts. The girls had a table at the Hillsborough Elementary School vendor show on November 21 and made money for St. Jude’s.
”We wanted to raise money for St. Jude’s because it is a great organization that helps kids if they don’t have enough money for equipment and medical supplies,”Sophia Iovino said.
The girls Sophia Iovino, MacKenzie Schoch, Kaia Foss, Aimee Vecchio, Abby Losch and Meghan McArthur worked for a few weeks to make their crafts of sparkle balls, perler beads, picture frames, snowflakes snowman, flower pens, candy cones, decorative pins, decorative magnets, rainbow loom key chains and autumn leaf wreaths. They were all excited to make the crafts and sell them.
The girls raised $225 during the three-hour event. One of the girl’s parents has arranged for Johnson and Johnson to match the amount. In total, the girls will make a donation of more than $600 to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
St. Jude Children’s Hospital was founded in 1962 by Danny Thomas and is a pediatric treatment and research center for children with life-threatening illnesses.
