Robert D. Prunetti, interim executive director, said, “In June 2014, this region will see an influx of up to 70,000 people for this monumental event. Our research and data anticipates a total expected impact of $116.5 million dollars from direct, indirect and induced income and consumptions. This will be unlike anything we have ever seen here in Central New Jersey.”
”We are less than 200 days away from one of the most inspirational events to ever take place in New Jersey and the majority of the sporting competitions, lodging and receptions will be taking place in Mercer County,” said TJ Nelligan, chairman &CEO, 2014 Special Olympics USA Games. “We thank the MIDJersey Chamber of Commerce for its support of the 2014 USA Games and MIDCED for its estimated impact of nearly $116 million to the area. The 2014 USA Games will leave a lasting legacy and change the perception nationwide of how individuals with intellectual disabilities are perceived and accepted.”
Mercer County will play host to the games June 14 to 21. Nearly 3,500 athletes are expected to compete in 16 Olympic-style team and individual sports, with the support of 1,000 coaches, 10,000 volunteers and 70,000 family, friends and spectators.
