Democrats are touting another assault on U.S. citizens’ rights and pocketbooks with their in-state tuition gift for illegal aliens. This bill hurts New Jersey students and New Jersey taxpayers. Here are some reasons why:
The new tuition paid by illegal aliens will be $14,000 per year. The current rate is $28,000. Who will make up this budgetary shortfall? Answer: All legal U.S. students, their parents and New Jersey taxpayers. The big winners are the illegal immigrants who will gain a 50 percent reduction in college tuition.
There are a fixed number of classroom seats in our universities. No preference will be given to legal U.S. citizens for these seats.
There are a fixed number of financial aid packages available to students. No preference will be given to legal U.S. citizens for this financial aid. There are a fixed number of loan packages available from banks for student tuition. No preference will be given to legal U.S. citizens for these loans.
Why are we allowing illegal immigrants to attend U.S. universities at all? They have no legal right to be here, live here or work here. If they work, it will be in violation of U.S. immigration laws and will deny those same jobs to U.S. citizens.
Two groups benefit from this law: corrupt lawmakers and corrupt illegals. It is outrageous and unfair to pass a bill that only benefits people residing illegally in this state.
Lawmakers would do better to find work for the 20 million Americans who cannot find full- or part-time work.
