BORDENTOWN — Two weeks of fundraising efforts by students from Bordentown Regional Middle School, highlighted by a kids walk Nov. 6, resulted in more than $5,000 being raised for juvenile diabetes research.
The two-week effort was kicked off by an assembly Oct. 24 featuring a representative from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to educate students about Diabetes.
Last year, the inaugural walk, raised $3,700. The students worked hard to exceed that amount and raise $5,400.During the two week period, students asked family and friends to support them to raise awareness and funds to support them in their JDRF Kids Walk.
This year the students were offered grade level incentives. When each grade sold 150 sneakers they were able to “mummy wrap” their teachers with toilet paper.
Then, after each grade level sold 300 sneakers, students were able to silly string their teachers.
The final challenge was to sell over 600 sneakers per grade level, this earned the students the chance to “Pie in the Face” their principal, assistant principal and a teacher.
According to a school release, more than 15,000 children every year are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
