The Chesterfield Township Historical Society holiday open house will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the society’s headquarters at 2 Front St., Crosswicks.
Celebrate this joyful season by making your own unique holiday centerpiece with seasonal greens and decorations and sharing traditional holiday refreshments with old and new friends.
The society will supply the greens and all materials needed along with expert instruction for $10. Register for centerpiece making by calling Debbie at 291-9351.
The Northern Burlington County Regional High School Band Booster holiday crafts show will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Jacobstown fire hall at 86 Chesterfield-Jacobstown Road.
Homemade breakfast and lunch items will be available. There will be holiday baked goods and holiday greenery sale also. Be sure to get your photo with Santa for you and your pet.
The Union Fire Company Tree Lighting featuring a visit from Santa will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 8.
Join your friends and neighbors in listening to holiday music and enjoying homemade baked goods and hot cocoa.
Area girl scouts will be singing and collecting canned goods. Children will be delighted with the arrival of Santa and the opportunity to share their wish lists.

The Crosswicks Friends Meeting Craft Night will be held 7 – 9 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the First Day School, located on the grounds of the Meeting House in Crosswicks.
This free event is an opportunity to come together to share conversation and fellowship while working on one’s own craft projects (i.e. sewing, quilting, spinning, scrapbooking.)
Participants are invited to bring whatever craft you are working on or if you are new to crafting usually there is someone to assist.

The Chesterfield Township Keen Agers meeting will be held at noon, Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the Chesterfield Firehouse.
Any Chesterfield resident 55 and over is welcome to attend. Keen Agers meetings are held two times a month on the second and fourth Wednesdays.
Meetings are held during the months of January through June and September through December. There are no meetings in July and August. Dues are $3 per year. Keen Agers begin with a potluck lunch, which is served at noon, and members bring whatever they would like to share.
The meetings start at 1 p.m. when they have various guest speakers including the local police who keep them informed on points of interest.

The Crosswicks Friends Meeting Annual Christmas Candlelight Service will be held 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22 at the Crosswicks Friends Meeting House on Front Street in Crosswicks.
Join in with family and friends for a quiet moment before Christmas. Enjoy songs of praise with the familiar Bible story of the birth of Christ as joyous music of Christmas fills the candlelit Meeting House.
All are welcome, wrapped gifts for needy children and contributions are welcome. Since the service is in candlelight, don’t forget to bring a flashlight.

The Chesterfield Township Historical Society is taking orders for holiday mincemeat pies. The mincemeat recipe is based on the traditional Brick’s Mincemeat recipe created and manufactured in Crosswicks for decades until the 1970s.
Order your 5½-inch pie for $15; 8-inch pie for $28; a dozen tarts for $25; and a container (approximately three3 cups) for $20.
Order by Dec. 12 to pick up Saturday, Dec. 21, at 2 Front St., Crosswicks, between 9 a.m. and noon. Surprise your family with this old-fashioned holiday treat.

The Chesterfield Township Historical Society recently opened its research library dedicated to longtime township historian Mal Knowles.
The research library has a thorough residential history of the township as well as local genealogical information and research aids (wills, vital records, etc.).

The Crosswicks Monthly Meeting has joined the reuse movement.
It has just signed up for ShoeBox Recycling. It’s an amazing community service fundraising opportunity that lets you recycle your shoes and find your soleMate.
It will be collecting shoes for reuse, spreading the message that worn is not worn out and, hopefully, connecting with people around the globe through the magic of a SoleMate note; just like the old message in a bottle, only now the vessel is your shoes you no longer wear.
People all over the globe depend on secondhand shoes so they can attend school, to protect against bacteria-borne illnesses, for self –esteem and for job creation.
ShoeBox Recycling will send boxes to fill, pay for all shipping costs, the tools for a successful shoe drive and the chance to meet our SoleMate. It pays 50 cents per pound for good, reusable and re-wearable shoes that are collected.
This collection will help Meeting to earn a little money while clearing out our closets and sharing with those in need. There will be collection boxes in the meeting house and First Day School on Front Street in Crosswicks.

The Chesterfield Township Environmental Commission is participating in a recycling program for inkjet cartridges, toner cartridges and cell phones.
These items will be recycled into usable products.
The Commission receives credits for each cartridge and cell phone. It will use the credits toward reforestation, protection of our natural resources and ecological education for our residents.
Collection boxes are located at the Crosswicks Library, Chesterfield Township municipal office, Old York County Club and Country Pool.
Please help protect our environment by recycling your used cell phones and inkjet cartridges.

The Chesterfield Township Environmental Commission is giving Chesterfield Township residents a chance to win a tree.
Each month, the commission is featuring a particular species of tree and asking Chesterfield residents to take pictures of the featured tree. At the monthly meeting, the commission will judge which picture is best. The winner will be contacted by email and will win a new tree to plant.
