The Burlington County College Foundation announced last week it has awarded 180 need-based scholarships for the spring 2014 semester — a dramatic increase from last semester.
The number of awards is up substantially from the fall. In addition, BBC announced that more than half of the total, 99, are first-time recipients.
”Scholarships keep higher education within reach for many students in Burlington County,” said Rebecca A. Corbin, BCC’s vice president of institutional advancement and executive director of the BCC Foundation. “Every dollar we award goes to Burlington County College students who need assistance. The need for scholarships continues to increase and we are working very hard to meet that challenge.”
Award notices have been sent to students and the scholarships have been posted to their accounts. Although scholarships have closed, students can still register for the upcoming semester by visiting www.bcc.edu.
The BCC Foundation recently held its marquee fundraiser, the annual Holiday Auction. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the event, which raised more than $75,000 for future scholarships.
In the past three academic years, the BCC Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships.
”There is nothing more rewarding than helping open a door to higher education for a deserving student,” said John Hood, chairman of the BCC Foundation’s Scholarship Committee. “We will always need one more dollar to open one more door for one more student.”
