HAMILTON — Residents, municipal officials and students from Greenwood Elementary School were treated to the annual Hamilton Township tree lighting ceremony Monday.
Apart from the tree lighting itself, the day featured the Steinert High School Choir, under the direction of Richard Schneider, performing a medley of Christmas songs.
In addition, Santa and Mrs. Claus made a special appearance and giving holiday treats to the students in attendance.
Mayor Kelly A. Yaede, standing next to the tree that was donated by township residents Ken and Barbara Ann Forsyth, said Christmas is her favorite time of the year.
”Some of community celebrate Hanukkah,” the mayor said. “Some of us will celebrate Kwanza after Christmas and some of us will celebrate Christmas in just over a week.
”This is a time when we will celebrate our faith, celebrate the gifts we are fortunate to have — such as health, happiness and safety — and also to celebrate the bonds that we share with our families and our loved ones,” she added.
She also described it as a time of year especially dedicated to children and thanked students from Alexander Elementary School who decorated ornaments for a tree in the lobby of the municipal building.
The mayor wished everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season.
