TEXT
Like all of the outdoors, the city streets are a great place to capture portraits and scenes on daily life. People often wear their emotions and on the sleeves and aren’t afraid to express themselves. Cities like: New York, San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro, London, and France have plenty of people and opportunities that can create great scenes.
Mike Peters will be joining us this week to discuss his street photography work. His talk: Photographing People On The Street: To ask, or not to ask, that is the question is about trying to capture people in the most genuine and "organic" possible way: "either as I find them or as I imagine them"; whether it be candid shots or a collaborative project. Mike’s goal is to find moments "rich with visual clues to engage your imagination".
"I believe that all photographs should make a connection, so that you the viewer can feel something familiar, or imagine a story about the photograph. For me, photographing people is the greatest and most interesting challenge."
Mike Peters has done work for Tiffany & Co., The New York Times, New Jersey Monthly and many others over his thirty year career. Along with his current freelance work, Mike is Director of Photographic Services at Montclair State University.
Come join us on January 8th to hear Mike’s talk and see some great portraits! The Meeting is at 1 Preservation Place, Princeton, NJ in the Johnson Education Center (2nd floor). The building is handicap accessible (the meeting is free and open to the public).
