Michael Markulec and Bruce Gunther, both of Hopewell Township, took oaths of office for three-year terms on the Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education at the board’s reorganization meeting Monday night.
It will be the first term on the board for both men.
Mr. Markulec, a former mayor of Hopewell Township, finished his second three-year term on the Township Committee Dec. 31.
Also taking the oath of office as a school board member Monday was incumbent Gordon Lewis, of Hopewell Borough, which like Pennington, has one seat on the nine-seat regional board. The township holds the other seven seats.
Messrs. Markulec and Gunther replace Jim Wulf and Stephen Keen, who did not seek re-election.
Also at Monday’s reorganization meeting, the board re-elected Lisa Wolff as board president and Leigh Ann Peterson as vice president. Both are from Hopewell Township.
In other school district news, parental feedback on a recently adopted new homework policy is being sought via an online survey.
In the winter of 2011, an advisory committee consisting of teachers, administrators, parents and students was formed to review the district’s homework policy.
The committee spent more than 18 months discussing and reviewing the homework in the school district. Based on the recommendations of this committee, the district implemented a new homework regulation in September.
The regulation is available at www2.hvrsd.org/boe/BoardPolicies/2330R.pdf.
As part of the implementation process, the school board committed to a mid-year review of the regulation’s implementation.
The survey should take approximately five minutes to complete.
