The Jamesburg Public Library, Gatzmer Avenue, recently decreased its hours of operation.
New library hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The facility will be closed Tuesdays and Sundays.
The library will be open 39 hours per week, which is 10 hours less per week than in 2013. The cut is necessary due to a decrease in operating funds for 2014. The funding of the library, based on the mandated minimumfunding formula, has resulted in a 5.3 percent reduction in the facility’s operating budget. The funding formula is a per-capita amount based on property values.
The library board of trustees is reportedly working with the mayor and Borough Council to find a way to restore the lost operating hours.
