By John Tredrea, Special Writer
On Jan. 27, as relatives, friends, colleagues and officials looked on, Sgt. Christopher Kascik took the oath of office as a lieutenant with the Hopewell Township Police Department during a Hopewell Township Committee meeting held at Hopewell Valley Central High School.
The Lambertville resident was promoted to fill the vacancy created when the new township chief, Lance Maloney, moved up from lieutenant.
Chief Maloney replaced George Meyer, who retired Jan. 31 after 38 years with the department.
Lt. Kascik was born and raised in West Amwell Township, is a graduate of South Hunterdon Regional High School and is attending Caldwell University.
He joined the Hopewell Township Police Department in February 1994 as a 9-1-1 dispatcher.
In February 1996, he was promoted to patrol officer, attended the Burlington County Police Academy and served as a general duty patrol officer as well as a traffic unit officer.
In February 2011, he was promoted to sergeant and assigned to supervise a patrol squad.
He has served as a bicycle officer, C.I.T. officer and community policing officer. He has also attended the FBI Supervision School for Municipal Law Enforcement and is the recipient of numerous departmental commendations, as well as the Mercer County 200 Club Valor Award and the Knights of Columbus Shield Award.
Lt. Kascik will function as the department’s operations officer, overseeing the patrol division as well as the traffic unit.
