MANALAPAN — An unknown individual was unsuccessful in a possible attempt to steal a car from a Manalapan home on Jan. 27.
Police said that at 2:14 a.m., Sgt. Dan Carey, Sgt. Michael Hoppock, Patrolman Brian Schank and Patrolman Morgan Joiner responded to the area of Bonnie Drive for a report of criminal trespass, attempted burglary and/or theft of a motor vehicle.
Bonnie Drive is in a residential development off Union Hill Road.
Police said a resident told the officers an unknown individual was observed attempting to gain entry into his vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, by pulling on the driver’s side door handle.
The officers attempted to locate the unknown individual, but did not locate that person.
In other incidents reported by police:
On Jan. 30 at 4:13 p.m., an officer responded to Best Buy, Route 9, for a report of fraud. Police said that on Jan. 29, a woman used six fraudulent $100 American Express traveler’s checks to purchase an iPad. The business learned the checks were fraudulent the next day.
On Jan. 29 at 1:46 p.m., officers responded to a home on Applegate Terrace for a report of a small fire in the kitchen. Firefighters from the Manalapan Fire Company, Millhurst, and the Englishtown Fire Department responded and were able to quickly extinguish the fire. An investigation revealed the fire appeared to be accidental. Police said the homeowner was at the scene of the fire.
On Jan. 27 at 2:25 p.m., officers responded to a business on Freehold Road. A company representative reported that sometime between Nov. 1 and Dec. 1, 2013, approximately $8,000 in unauthorized purchases were made at several home improvement stores throughout the state by someone using the company’s credit card. Police said there is a suspect in the case.
On Jan. 27 at 10:55 a.m., a 39-year-old resident of Forked River reported a criminal mischief incident in which an unknown individual spray-painted graffiti on a trailer while it was parked at the Battleground Country Club, Millhurst Road, during the overnight hours. The victim is a landscaping company based out of Hillsborough.
On Jan. 27 at 2:46 p.m., Patrolman Reginald Grant responded to Cross Slope Court in the Covered Bridge adult community in reference to a vandalism incident. A 63-year-old resident told the officer that someone damaged his vehicle by running a key along the entire passenger side.
