The township will hold its first free rabies immunization clinic of the year for residents’ dogs and cats.
HAMILTON The township will hold its first free rabies immunization clinic of the year for residents’ dogs and cats on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the McManimon Township Building located at 320 Scully Ave.
The free clinic will be offered between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon.
The McManimon Building is located off Olden Avenue between Liberty Street and Cedar Lane, opposite the Olden Pharmacy.
As a courtesy, the clinic is open to pets of township residents only proof a residency is required.
All dogs must be leashed, and as a safety precaution, dogs should be muzzled, if necessary. All cats must arrive in a carrier.
According to a township release, the New Jersey Department of Health Policy requires the immunization of dogs every 2 years, even if the inoculation is good for a 3-year period.
Dog licenses for 2014 will not be issued if a pet’s rabies immunization expires before Nov. 1. The new 2014 dog license application is now available. A copy of the form is in the center insert section of the 2014 Hamilton Township calendar. An electronic version of the 2014 dog license application is also available on the Township website www.HamiltonNJ.com.
Dog license applications are due by March 31 by 4 p.m.
Fees are $8 and $11 for spayed/neutered and non-spayed/neutered animals, respectively.
Those fees are $2 and $5, respectively, for senior citizens.
There are two additional rabies clinics scheduled in March. The first will take place Wednesday, March 12 from 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the McManimon Township Building.
Another clinic will be held, also at the McManimon Township Building, from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 22.
Residents are also encouraged to visit the township’s Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, located at 2100 Sylvan Avenue near the Hamilton Township Department of Public Works Building on Tampa Avenue to see some of the kind and loving animal companions available for adoption.
The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents can adopt a loving pet looking for a home for just $25. Residents with specific animal adoption questions may contact the Hamilton Township Animal Shelter and Adoption Center directly at 609-890-3550.
