Students from all three township high schools will compete in the 18th annual New Jersey High School Consumer Bowl on Wednesday.
TRENTON — Students from all three township high schools will compete in the 18th annual New Jersey High School Consumer Bowl on Wednesday.
The bowl will take place at 9 a.m. at the Stone Terrace, 2275 Kuser Road, Hamilton. There is a snow date of Feb. 27.
Students from Hamilton West, Nottingham and Steinert high schools will compete against the likes of Villa Victoria Academy and West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North for the Mercer County title.
According to a county release, the winner will move on to the Central Jersey Regionals and, potentially state finals.
The Consumer Bowl features a game-show format to test students’ knowledge of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act, consumer rights and responsibilities such as the purchase of new and used vehicles, investment schemes, home improvement fraud, credit protection and general knowledge of consumer protection laws and regulations.
”This is a great opportunity for students to learn things they can use to become smarter consumers,” said Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes.
Refereeing will be Mercer County Consumer Affairs Chief Donna Giovannetti and judges scheduled to attend include Assistant County Counsel Joseph Blaney, County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello, retired investigator Joanne Frank, Sheriff Jack Kemler and Assistant Prosecutor James Scott.
John Worth, superintendent of the County Office of Weights and Measures, will serve as timekeeper while Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office detectives Nancy Diaz and Michelle Russell will serve as scorekeepers.
