Dina Dunn, a member of the Pennington Borough Council since June 2011, will resign from the council on March 1.
”I have decided to resign from the council to dedicate my time and energy toward the pursuit of my professional career,” Ms. Dunn said.
”I would like to thank Mayor (Anthony) Persichilli, my fellow council members, and all of the borough professionals, including the invaluable office staff at Borough Hall, borough engineers and police officers for welcoming me and working with me throughout my tenure.
“I would especially like to thank the men of the Public Works Department who work hard every day and have taught me much about what it takes to make this town run smoothly. Thank you for your professionalism and dedication, and for allowing me to play a role in continuously moving the borough toward realizing its full potential.”
Ms. Dunn is a reseach scientist. She has a bachelor of science degree in biology, with an emphasis on physiology, from Penn State University. After getting her degree, she took more courses at several universities, including a course in molecular biology at Harvard University.
She did laboratory work for seven years, working on cancer research and drug discovery before taking a job for several years in technical marketing for Applied Biosystems, which later became Lab Technologies.
Ms. Dunn, whose term ends Dec. 31, 2015, is a Democrat, as are all the other members of the council and Mayor Persichilli.
Under state law, the procedure for replacing her calls for the local Democratic organization to submit up to three candidates to the council. The council will pick her replacement from one of those candidates.
”I have enjoyed serving as a member of council for nearly three years, spanning two terms,” Ms. Dunn said. “It has been an honor and privilege to serve the community in this role. As chair of the Public Works Committee, liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission, member of the Finance Committee and contributor to the Personnel Committee I have enjoyed working with members of these groups in order to solve problems and implement solutions that better our community. Finally, thank you to the residents of Pennington for putting your trust in me and allowing me to represent you as a member of council. It has been a true honor.”
