Blank Canvas Gallery, located at 19a West Bridge Street, welcomes Phoenixville artist Teresa Haag at her debut solo show, "Connections" on Saturday March 8 from 3pm to 8pm.
Teresa Haag tells stories through cityscapes. She found her voice while offering hers to the old buildings and streets that have so much to share. Not afraid to experiment with materials and medium, Teresa captures an energy in her paintings that is achieved through her unique approach to paint application and ground. Bold, linear and graphic in nature, her work is fresh and deliberate, often evoking the style of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
Haag thinks of her cityscapes as a portrait artist would think of their subject. She welcomes the little imperfections that are discovered only when painting or sketching a subject. A broken fence, crooked fire escape, or crumbling brick from a wall all are reminiscent of lines and wrinkles found in a face that has lived a full life.
For the "Connections" show, Haag has chosen to focus her talents on a study of bridges. The strong lines of street lamps and bridge rigging criss cross the canvas, punctuated by spots of color from street signs and car lights. Haag’s work forces us to rethink the mundane of everyday travel with a new perspective.
The event is free and open to the public, with light refreshments available. Haag will be providing an artist demo from 3-5pm with an artist reception following until 8pm. "Connections" will remain on exhibit until April 13, 2013.
