Local Chiropractors Organize Volunteers to Shave Their Heads to Support Childhood Cancer Research
St. Baldrick’s Foundation event to raise money for lifesaving research
Lawrenceville, NJ /March 15, 2014 –The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at Amalfi’s Restaurant on March 15, 2014 where more than 170 will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to Conquer Childhood Cancers!
Why all the shaved heads? Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the U.S. will not survive. With only 4 percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors are needed to continue the battle against this devastating disease.
Drs. Melissa and Michael McCue of Colonial Valley Chiropractic, located at 136 Lawrenceville Pennington Rd., will be organizing the Lawrenceville St. Baldrick’s Event for their 7th year. This year Dr. Michael McCue and several others will be inducted onto the Knights of the Bald Table, an exclusive group for Shavees that have participated with St. Baldrick’s for 7 years.
Last year they honored 2 local children one of which is a Lawrence High School student, Aaron Thompson. He has participated as a shavee at the Amalfi’s location for the past five years. His team, the Bald Buddies, were the top team and raised $27,288.27. Clifton Perry, a 6 year St. Baldrick’s veteran and Lawrenceville resident, raised over $11,000.00 alone. In the past 6 years this event has raised over $500,000.00 to support Cancer Research for Children!
