Andrew S. Blumer of Freehold has been certified as a life member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi- Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Membership in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum is limited to attorneys who have won million and multimillion-dollar verdicts, awards and settlements. Members of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum must be life members of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and have acted as principal counsel in at least one case that has resulted in a multimillion-dollar verdict, award or settlement.

Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar recently announced that it donated $270,394 to the U.S. Marine Corps in support of the annual Toys for Tots program. The money was raised during Applebee’s annual Breakfast with Santa event. All proceeds went toward the initiative. Locally, Applebee’s has locations in Edison, Howell, Manalapan, Middletown, Milltown, Tinton Falls and Woodbridge. Over the past 14 years, Applebee’s locations that are owned and operated by Doherty Enterprises on Long Island and in New Jersey have raised more than $3.3 million for Toys for Tots.

Shari Canell and Arleta Kozek have formed the new accounting firm of Canell, Kozek and Co. LLC, at 10 W. Main St., Freehold, in the same offices of the accounting firm of Susan Schneider, who has closed her practice. All services and phone numbers remain the same.

Shari Canell of Marlboro worked for Schneider and Associates for 15 years. She earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Rider University in 1981 and became a CPA in 1985.

Arleta Kozek of Jackson started her career at Schneider and Associates 10 years ago as a tax accountant and progressed to senior tax accountant. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery has once again named CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in weight-loss surgery. To earn the re-designation, CentraState’s surgical processes were closely examined, and data on health outcomes was collected. The three-year re-accreditation extends through February 2016.

Wells Fargo Advisors has announced that Joseph Xerri, vice president investment officer, has once again received the Five Star Wealth Manager award. Xerri, a financial adviser in the firm’s East Brunswick office, has been a financial adviser for more than 26 years. He joined A.G. Edwards and Sons Inc., a predecessor firm of Wells Fargo Advisors, in 1994. Xerri is president of the Rotary Club of South River-East Brunswick. He and his wife, Connie, reside in Freehold.

The Provident Bank, New Jersey’s first and oldest community bank, will mark 175 years in business on Feb. 27. To celebrate its anniversary, the bank will offer refreshments to visitors at all branches during the day and host a gala event that evening at the Liberty House in Jersey City, where the bank remains headquartered since its inception. The Curchin Group LLC, a mid-sized, full-service accounting firm based in Red Bank, announced that accountant Richard Presser of Manalapan has joined its professional staff.

Presser received a Bachelor of Science degree in business with a concentration in finance from Monmouth University, West Long Branch, graduating magna cum laude. He is expecting to receive a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in accounting from Monmouth University in May. At Monmouth University, he served as the accounting department’s graduate assistant.

Before joining The Curchin Group, Presser was a bookkeeper for a firm in Deal, served as a Tax Assistance VITA volunteer for AARP in Monmouth County, and performed work as a financial data analyst and sales assistant in the financial services field.
