MANVILLE: Man ‘looked like he was going to jump off library’ but proves unfounded

  • Police received a call about a man “who looked like he was going to jump off the library” at 100 So. 10th Ave. at 10:33 a.m. Feb. 20. Patrols found the report unfounded.
  • On Feb. 20 the smell of natural gas was reported at 4:12 p.m. in the area of Boesel Avenue and Cooper Street. A caller said she’d been smelling an odor for a few days, and it seemed to be getting worse. The fire chief asked for PSE&G to respond. The scene was turned over to fire department, which remained until PSE&G arrived.
  • Robert McCarter, 52, of Hillsborough was charged with shoplifting items valued at $52.92 at 5:58 p.m. Feb. 20 at Walmart on North Main Street. He was released on his own say-so.
  • An unknown car hit a parked vehicle, possibly overnight, on South 9th Avenue at 11:05 a.m. Feb. 21 and left the scene. The damage was noticed in the morning.
  • A vehicle parked on North Weiss Street was reported scratched, as if with a key, on both sides at 11:53 a.m. Saturday. Estimated damage was $500. The incident was put on the record.
  • A caller said an animal was slightly hung up in vines on a wooden fence at 8:40 p.m. Saturday on North 7th Avenue. Officer Joseph Buda removed vines, freeing the possum. The caller was advised.
  • A car drove on a front lawn, smashing a fence, on South 15th Avenue at 3:08 a.m. Sunday. Patrols charged Kervin Santamaria-Ladine, 21, of North Plainfield with driving while intoxicated. He was taken to headquarters for booking.
  • A resident was awakened at 3:25 a.m. Sunday by banging on the front door of a North 4th Avenue home for about 15 minutes. Patrols responded and said the upstairs resident had lost her keys and was trying to get into the common door. The caller was contacted and opened the door.
  • Four gunshots were reported at 1:08 a.m. Monday at Roosevelt Avenue and South 13th Avenue. Patrols checked the area and concluded the complaint was unfounded.
