According to ownship police Chief Raymond Hayducka, 620 applications have been received for the upcoming Police Officer examination.
The township has anticipated that more than 700 candidates would have applied for the examination process.
Chief Hayducka said that the department opened up the examinations again to hopefully get more applicants from the community.
He also said that taking alternate route candidates, those that put themselves through the police academy, has decreased the pool of applicants due to several academies closing throughout the state.
The deadline for all applicants is March 3 at 4:30 p.m.
In addition, those applicants who will be mailing their applications must have their submission postmarked by that date.
Officials caution that no applications will be accepted after the deadline.
Eligibility to compete in the written examination requires completion of 60 college credits by the end of the semester at the time of the applicant’s hiring.
In addition, the successful candidate must be a United States citizen be of good health, be able to read, write, and understand the English language and of good moral character.
In addition, the candidate must be a resident of New Jersey and possess a valid New Jersey motor vehicle license.The written examination is scheduled for March 10 at 6 pm.
