HAMILTON — The investigation into the cause of a house fire that claimed the life of a township man Monday evening is ongoing.
Angelo Parmigiani, 90, was declared dead after being taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton, according to Hamilton Police Captain James Stevens.
Firefighters and police responded to the blaze on Arena Drive at approximately 5:10 p.m. on March 10.
While the fire appears to be accidental, official are still investigating the cause, Capt. Stevens said.
”It’s still under investigation at this point, but it appears to be accidental,” he said. “They’re still working on the cause and origin at this point.”
Three other individuals in the home at the time of the fire were able to escape, he said.
”The female occupants had left the residence … and advised (Mr. Parmigiani) of the fire, at the same time they were calling 911,” he said, adding that Mr. Parmigiani was in the shower at the time. “There was a rapid response, there was no delay in calling.
”When the fire broke out he was advised by the female occupants that there was a fire and he was apparently exiting the shower or getting changed and was trying to get his belongings together to get out of the house,” he added.
No formal cause or manner of the death has been determined, he said.
”It was a heavy smoke condition. The fire was very intense and the fire department did an outstanding job in controlling it,” he said. “They made entry as soon as they could get there and recovered Mr. Parmigiani.
DeCou, White Horse, Rusling, Groveville, Hamilton and Bordentown Fire Departments responded to the blaze.
The fire is being investigated by Det. Bob Diszler and Det. Len Gadsby and Bob Diszler of the Hamilton Police Division, as well as Det. Tom Paglione of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
