BORDENTOWN CITY: Local youth earns Eagle rank

Family, friends, fellow scouts, community leaders and other special guests were on hand for a ceremony and dinner was held March 2 at the Bordentown Senior Center.

BORDENTOWN CITY — Recently, John J. LoBianco III, of Boy Scout Troop 13 in Bordentown, was honored for earning the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank possible in Scouts.
   Family, friends, fellow scouts, community leaders and other special guests were on hand for a ceremony and dinner was held March 2 at the Bordentown Senior Center.
   For his project, John led the fundraising effort, planning and installation of two paver patios to upgrade the picnic area at Gilder Park in Bordentown City.
   With the assistance of his fellow scouts, leaders, friends, and family, John put in over 127 manhours to bring this project to completion.
   John expressed gratitude to those who donated to the project including, family, friends, Bordentown Knights of Columbus, Renna’s Pizza, Under The Moon, La Galleria, Marcello’s, The Vault, Wisdom Diner, Home Depot, and Yardville Supply.
   John was accompanied by his parents, John and Donna, and his brother Nicholas, who is a Star Scout in Troop 13. His father is the Scoutmaster for Troop 13 and also an Eagle Scout. Troop Committee Chairman, Fritz Denlinger and Assistant Scoutmaster Robert Wilder presided over the ceremony.
   During the ceremony, proclamations were made by Bordentown City Mayor Joseph Malone, City Commissioner Zig Targonski and Bordentown Township Mayor Stephen Benowitz.
   Good Citizenship awards were also presented to John by the Marine Corps League, American Legion and the Masons. Deacon Tom Shea of St. Mary’s Church read the invocation and benediction. Representatives from the Boy Scouts of America, Garden State Council were present as well.
   Requirements for attaining the level of Eagle Scout include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating Scout spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads and manages.
   John, a sophomore at Bordentown Regional High School, joined the scouts in Bordentown in 2004 as a member of Pack 65 and has currently been with Troop 13 since 2009.
   John attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree in 2010 and is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s national honor society. He said he would like to study engineering in college after graduating high school.
