EDISON — Rohit Iyer, a student at J.P. Stevens High School in Edison, won first place in the New Jersey State Bar Association’s annual Black History Month Trivia Contest. It was held at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick on Feb. 19.
Five finalists — four from J.P. Stevens — took part in the contest based on essays they submitted in the Black History Month Essay Contest sponsored by the association’s Minorities in the Profession section. High school students from around the state submitted 97 essays.
Claire Pan of J.P. Stevens finished second, while Daniel Onuoha of Williamstown High School took third. Elizabeth Lee and Chirag Gurukiran, both of J.P. Stevens, were also finalists.
