Families take part in ‘Night at the Museum’

METUCHEN — The borough’s Campbell Elementary School recently underwent a transformation to provide a “Night at the Museum” for fourth-grade students and their families.

The library became a museum, decked out with projects on which students had worked during the school year.

Exhibits of solar system models, projects on endangered animals, biography boxes and writing samples lined the room, with students taking their family members on guided tours of the “museum.”

Once the families had viewed the various works on display, the group made its way into the gym, which was converted into a movie theater for the evening. There, they cozied up with blankets for a viewing of the film “Night at the Museum,” starring Ben Stiller.

Close to 300 students and family members took part in the event, which was organized by fourth-grade teachers Erin Santasieri and Melissa Savarese.

With the help of the other fourth-grade teachers, art teacher Katie McKeown, librarian Barb Derer, and “Mr. Mark” and his custodial staff, the Jan. 24 event was a huge success, according to school officials.

Assistant Principal Brooke Kirschner attended the event. Campbell’s new principal, Ed Porowski, said he is hopeful that this would become an annual event at the school.
