HIGHTSTOWN — Borough Councilman Rob Thibault will hold his monthly public meeting on tomorrow at the Hightstown Library at 11 a.m., according to a press release.
While there is no set agenda and the councilman will address any issue or question raised by residents, Mr. Thibault said in the release that he expects the 2014 Borough budget, the ongoing saga of Borough Hall and the proposed ordinance to combat underage drinking to be foremost on residents’ minds.
”With yet another report concluding that renovations required to allow continued use of the former Lucas building as a temporary police station would be prohibitively expensive, I think the stalling tactics are at an end at last and we can finally move ahead to do what is best for taxpayers,” Mr. Thibault said. “I’m sure residents want to know what is next.”
In the release, Mr. Thibault also said that an ordinance seeking to address underage drinking is likely to be on the minds of residents.
The Board of Health submitted the ordinance to council with a recommendation for passage, but it was tabled for further discussion at the most recent council meeting.
”Some of the objections raised by Council members such as ‘we don’t have an underage drinking problem in Hightstown’ are ridiculous on their face,” Mr. Thibault said. “I’ve worked with the Board of Health to get the information and facts needed to make a thoughtful and rational decision and look forward to sharing that information with residents.”
The public meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday March 15 at the Hightstown Memorial Library, 114 Franklin Street in Hightstown.
