LANBERTVILLE: 5K run, health walk to raise money for park

Stoneking Physical Therapy and Wellness Center in Lambertville will present the third annual Shad Run 5K and 1-mile health walk on Saturday, April 12.
Last year, when 371 people participated, $12,000 was raised to support the efforts to revitalize Lambertville’s Ely Park.
”Richard Stoneking is continuing to host this event on behalf of the park,” said Friends of Ely Park president Jim Mastrich. “This is yet another example of how supportive our community has been of our efforts to renovate and upgrade Ely Park.”
Mr. Mastrich said that Jim Hamilton, founder of the Friends of Ely Park, has expressed appreciation for Stoneking’s continued generosity in raising funds for the project.
”Our friend, Jim Hamilton, has produced healthy cooking classes at Stoneking for years,” said Richard Stoneking. “The Shad Run 5K and Health Walk is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to Jim, not only for helping our Wellness Center but for kicking-off this important community project. This year we hope to continue to expand the number of participants and money raised.”
Now that the initial construction of the Snack Shack Plaza has been completed, funds will go to expand the work around the snack shack, including construction of brick dugouts for softball and baseball fields in a style similar to the brick columns already constructed.
Both the 5K course and the 1 Mile Health Walk will begin at 333 North Main St. and Cherry Lane in the Stoneking Physical Therapy and Wellness Center parking lot, and follow the same route as last year. The course has been approved by USA Track & Field and will run through the heart of Lambertville and along the D&R Canal. Busy streets will be avoided; the finish line is back on Cherry Lane.
Registration and bib pick up begins at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 8:15 on race day. The 5K run begins at 8:45 and the 1-mile health walk begins at 9. An awards ceremony follows at 10.
For runners who register before March 30, the fee is $25; afterwards it is $35, and on race day the fee is $40. There is a $10 fee for walkers.
