Police are investigating the cause of a fire at a residence on Cranbury Half-Acre Road Sunday.

MONROE — Police are investigating the cause of a fire at a residence on Cranbury Half-Acre Road Sunday.
   According to police, the owner of the home called police at 3:03 p.m. to report the fire at 264 Cranbury Half-Acre Road.
   Officers from the Monroe Township Police Department along with Monroe Township Fire Departments and EMS were dispatched to the home and observed smoke and fire coming from the residence, police said.
   The homeowner was able to get all occupants out of the residence and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for further assistance, police said.
   Township firefighters extinguished the blaze that substantially damaged the structure, making it uninhabitable, police said.
   Police said they did not know what arrangements the homeowner was making for shelter following the blaze.
   The fire is currently under investigation by the Monroe Township Police Department and the Monroe Township Fire Department.
   At this time, the investigation is focusing on the candles that were left burning unattended, police said.
