HAMILTON — Though the township is in the 12th Congressional District, Hamilton Democrats have announced their support for State Sen. Linda Greenstein, D-14, in the race for the district’s seat.
The race has already began picking up steam as Sen. Greenstein, and other potential candidates have been jockeying for position and picking up endorsements after U.S. Rep. Rush Holt announced that he would not seek a ninth term in Congress last month.
In a press release, Hamilton Township Democratic Club President Eileen Thornton and Vice President Rick Tighe announced the club’s full support for Sen. Greenstein.
”For more than a decade, Hamilton Township has known Linda Greenstein as a true fighter for our working families and seniors, and her qualifications put her head and shoulders above the rest of the field to succeed Congressman Holt,” said Ms. Thornton. “She shares our progressive values and has never stopped listening to her constituents to do what’s best for our township and our district. In this campaign, all of Mercer County should look at Linda the way we here in Hamilton do – she may not live here, but she definitely is one of us.”
Mr. Tighe said Sen. Greenstein has been a good advocate for her constituents.
”Linda has been as true a neighbor and friend to Mercer County as anyone else, and has always been on our side in the fights that matter, for fair taxes, for better schools, and for our seniors and children,” said Mr. Tighe. “Even though Hamilton is not part of the 12th District, we will happily stand up to tell the rest of Mercer County how special Linda is and that she has earned the privilege to represent our county in Congress.”
Assemblymen Wayne DeAngelo and Dan Benson, D-14, both echoed the sentiments of the club.
”I am incredibly proud that my hometown has given its support to Linda, after she’s supported us for so long,” said Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo. “All of Mercer County needs to know how much of a fighter she is for our progressive values, and that we need her strength and voice fighting to bring about change in Washington. We need a work horse in the halls of Congress, and there’s no one more dedicated to all of her constituents than Linda.”
”Hamilton is proud of Linda’s service and her strong support of our town,” said Assemblyman Dan Benson. “We know that when the voters in the 12th Congressional District learn about her progressive positions, and see her as the hard-working fighter we have come to know, they’ll recognize that she is the right fit to represent them in the House.”
All candidates for the office must file petitions with the state by March 31 to appear on the June primary ballot.
The 12th Congressional District includes the towns of East Windsor, Ewing, Hightstown, Hopewell, Lawrence, Pennington, Princeton, Trenton and West Windsor in Mercer County.
In Middlesex County, it includes Cranbury, Dunellen, East Brunswick, Helmetta, Jamesburg, Middlesex, Milltown, Monroe, North Brunswick, Old Bridge, Plainsboro, South Brunswick, South River and Spotswood.
And in Somerset County, it includes Bound Brook, Franklin, Manville and South Bound Brook. And Fanwood, Plainfield and Scotch Plains in Union County.
