Library offers help on next two Saturdays
Time is running out to buy health insurance and avoid being penalized.
Personnel from Cognosante Enrollment Assistance Services will be available to answer questions and help community members with signing up for the Affordable Health Care Act (aka Obamacare) on Saturdays, March 22 and 29, at 1 p.m. at the Hillsborough library at 379 South Branch Road.
Adult programs (registration required):
• New Jersey history — Civil War historian Glenn LeBoeuf will present a program about Philip Kearny, who led the First Jersey Brigade before rising to major general. Respected and beloved by his men, Kearny led by example and damned Yankee politicians, senior officers and rebels alike. Thurs., March 20, at 7 p.m.
• ESL conversation group — Ages 18 and older can sign up for a mixed-gender English as a Second Language group in the library conference room. Must know basic English. Mondays, March 24 and 31, at 7 p.m.
• Yoga — Robyn Ulmer leads a 4-week, beginner friendly, all-levels adult class that ends at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring water, mat or towel.
• Afternoon movie — To be announced. Fri., March 28, at 1 p.m.
• Political talk — Dr. Marc Mappen, a Rutgers historian, will use zest and humor to explore three centuries of political corruption in the Garden State in “Story of Corruption in New Jersey – How Bad Are We?” Sat., March 29, at 2 p.m.
• Foster parent a pet — The Somerset Regional Animal Shelter tell you what to expect when fostering a homeless animal for the shelter. ’Thurs., April 3, at 7 p.m.
Programs for youngsters; registration required.
• Story & Craft (ages 2-6) — Listen to a story about spring and create a craft to take home. Fri., March 21, at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m., or Sat., March 22, at 10 a.m.
• Story Time (ages 3-6) — Enjoy stories and build language skills with your preschool or kindergarten child and read a story about spring on Mon., March 24, and “On The Farm” on March 31, both at 1 p.m. No registration required.
• Tail Waggin’ Tutors (grades K-4) — Each registered child will get 10 minutes practicing reading skills while Xena, a Therapy Dog International-certified dog, listens. Online registration is not available; call or stop by the Children’s Desk. Mon., March 24 at 4 p.m.
• Toddler Time (ages 2 and 3) — Introduce books to your child with a story on pigs on Tues., March 25, and on rabbits on April 1, both at 10 a.m.
• Rhyme Time (newborn to 24 months) — Twenty minutes of nursery rhyme fun. Tues., March 25 and April 1, at 10:30 a.m.
• T-Shirt Surgery (grades 6-12) — Be creative in a crafting free-for-all! We’ll provide a variety of tutorials for your do-it-yourself creation. Bring a few T-shirts for a bit of crafty surgery. Tues., March 25 at 6 p.m.
• Preschool Book Club (for parents and children ages 3-5) — Read books by Jane Yolen and share book-related activities. Wed., March 26, at 10 a.m.
• Mathathon (grades 2-4) JEI Learning leads an advanced problem-solving session to enhance critical, logic and analytical thinking. Wed., March 26, at 4 p.m.
• Art Adventures (ages4-6) — Get creative juices flowing and take home your own mosaic masterpiece! (Some projects may be messy, so dress in play clothes!) Thurs., March 27, at 10 a.m.
• Kidz Art Zone (grades 3-5) — Check out the library’s newest program. Budding artists can have fun creating masterpieces with their friends! (Some projects may be messy, so dress in play clothes!) Thurs., March 27, at 4 p.m.
• Special Storytime (ages 2-6) — The story is on flying a kite on Fri. and Sat., March 28 and 29, at 10 a.m.
